October 2005

Another 3 months of hard work and the plywood subdeck is finally on !!
we (Girard and I)have replaced every deck beams on the boat except for the starboard carlinge on the cabin .
All new deck beams are from reclaimed Douglas Fir from old wharehouses.
On this we have glued and screwed the plywood subdeck(indonesian Meranti marine ply 3/4"),this make the boat much more stronger than when it was built !!
In the forward Cabin I have built a big double berth, and I have started to rebuilt the Galley with tongue and groove Port Oford Cedar.
In the Heads, I have replaced the floorboard using the old teack from the deck, and installed the Loo.
In the 70's,she was involved in a collision with a ferry, with damages to the sheerplank on starboard. This was repaired but we do not like very much what has been done !! So to reinforce this previous repair we have glued and bolt a 10' long,1"1/2 thick plank of oak on the strbd sheer plank in the saloon and a matching one slightly smaller (8' only) on port side for the symetry.
I will be back to work for another month at the end of October to fibergass the deck, work on the masts and dodger, install the wood stove, shower, some lighting... and securing the boat for winter.
We have made some modifications on the deck as we are going to built a cabin trunk with skylight to replace the two hatches over the galley/saloon ,as per the original plans from Edson Schock .
